Spuzz, The Golden Gate Bridge connects San Francisco with Marin County, not Oakland. The Bay Bridge connects SF to Oakland. -Karen

Subject: Poor Oakland
Its opening day for the Golden Gate bridge! Huzzah! Planes fly over! Ships sail under! But more importantly, cars, and lots of them, cross! It seems that more people wanted to try going one way (it looks like into SF then into Oakland.. make your own jokes there). Soon, there will be mini pageant girls! Woo! People get so excited, they walk on the bridge itself! Double Huzzah!

Subject: Cars and More Cars
Silent raw newsreel footage of the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Mostly, this involves a very slow motorcade of 30s carsÂÂso slow a bicyclist can lead the way! After the cars finally get over, the bridge is opened to pedestrian traffic and this footage is pretty interesting. A nice chunk of history here.
